Kids with Epilepsy Encounter Social Isolation in School! Help Bring Awareness About This Condition This Thursday Sept. 26th.
Polo Grill on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch, hosts JoshProvides.org for their kick off fundraiser for the Walk for Epilepsy. Starting at 6pm until 9pm, all proceeds from the Celebrity Bartender Event will go towards proving families financial support for those who have family members with epilepsy.
Sandy and Bruce Chapnick are the parents of Josh Chapnick who passed away suffering from epilepsy; a neurological disorder that can occur with no signs. Josh had his first seizure at sixteen years old, five years later he was found dead after two days in his apartment.. His sister; Nicole Chapnick explains, because of Josh’s seizures, kids in school isolated him, wanting nothing to do with him – social isolation.
Social isolation is a major issue in school that is not addressed, it’s a form of bullying in a non verbal form. Josh Provides is up and running, five years after her Josh’s death. It’s a small, but growing organization that has national reach. They have a Board of Directors, advisers and at least one family member is on the board of the advising committee.
Nicole stresses the importance of the word provide in Josh Provides – the organization provides financial assistance including medical services, prescriptions, transportation and counseling to families, caregivers and those affected by epilepsy. You can help bring awareness by getting involved in the events they host. Start this Thursday at Polo Grill to find out more about the November 16th Walk for Epilepsy.
